First germination of crabgrass found (in a flower bed). Meehan’s Lawn Service, Inc. Gets many calls early in spring from people who are certain they have crabgrass. They don’t! It’s too early. Crabgrass is an annual and lives from Early May when seeds germinate to first frost when it dies leaving seeds for the next year. With our first treatment we apply a preventer for this annual weed. As the season progresses, crabgrass may have the chance to germinate. If that happens we use a post-emergent weed control to kill the plants before they have a chance to set seed.
