Dollar spot disease is beginning to show up in lawns around the area. Dollar spot is quite common during the summer months. It shows up as spots that often grow together to form large damaged areas. It is not a terribly serious disease but is unsightly.
The best way to distinguish dollar spot from other diseases and insect damage is to look at individual leaf blades. There will be an hourglass-shaped lesion that is almost white with two dark bands at either end.
There are fungicides labeled for this disease but they must be applied as a preventative. They will do little good once the disease is established. If you have Dollar spot every year, a fungicide may be an option. Otherwise, it will grow out and the lawn will recover.
